“My paintings are about colour. There are endless combinations. My paintings are about the contrast of dark and light. They have strong value contrast. They are moody and evoke emotion in the viewer. This is what excites me as an artist!”
Nancy’s intuitive style is filled with strong colour and value contrasts. They are moody and evoke emotion in the viewer. They might be landscapes, they might be abstracts, but none would work if she didn’t pay attention to colour and value. Nancy is a qualified visual art teacher and offers workshops with an emphasis on developing solid compositional skills and personal expression. Nancy has used the same palette of primary colours in her paintings for the past twenty-five years. Viewers are immediately drawn to her paintings because to this colour exploration. Her paintings are rich, harmonious and unique combinations of intense colour. She is influenced by the Japanese concept of NOTAN: the black and white principle of design. This is the fundamental backbone of her painting compositions. Nancy’s paintings are a combination of feelings, memories and observations made during her travels throughout Ontario, from Lake Superior to the hills and valleys of Oro Medonte. They are not literal translations of the landscape. They are abstracted images capturing her personal emotional impression. Nancy lives in Edgar, Ontario. |
