Style

Expressionist contemporary art is Nancy’s forte. Her bold expressive style explodes in a torrent of life in all its moods. Sometimes vibrant and joyful, other times rich, deep and brooding, but always an exciting feast for the eyes and soul.

Expressionism is an intensely personal art form. The expressionist artist strives to convey his/her personal feelings about the object painted, rather than merely record their observation of it. Thus, in order to achieve maximum impact on the viewer, representational accuracy is avoided in favour of strong outlines, simple shapes and bold colours. Compositions tend to be simpler and more direct, and are often characterized by thick impasto paint, loose, freely applied brushstrokes. The message is all-important.

While Nancy sometimes paints with thick impasto paint, most often she prefers to apply paint to canvas by glazing transparent colours. In this way she is able to attain depth and richness.
